is the shooting at lax that shut down the airport. los angeles police say there are multiple victims including a t.s.a. officer. thank you for joining us. i am kristen sze. >> los angeles police surrounded terminal 3 at lax. the suspect has been stopped but police are taking precautions in case there are other shooters. >> we are going to the newsroom. >> details are coming in. we saw the f.b.i. arriving. this started at 9:30 at a checkpoint inside terminal 3 that houses air tran, alaska and jetblue. a man fired shots with a rifle at a security check point. it ended up with several people wounded. at least three. one wore a t.s.a. officer uniform and we believe the t.s.a. officer was shot. police and security immediately moved in ordering people to get out, evacuate the terminal. some went on to the tarmac where they were loaded on the buses. the suspected shooter has been shot and taken into custody but we talked with a local man by known who flew in and said all hell broke loose. >> all hell broke loose because people were pouring out of the terminal on to the tarmac. police arrived, the cars ca

the developing news out at the los angeles international airport tonight where a shooting earlier today left one tsa agent dead and as many as seven others injured. we're awaiting a news conference from authorities in just a minute. but first, let's check in with cnbc's scott cohn who joins us now live with the latest details. good evening, scott. >> reporter: good evening, larry. friday morning at los angeles international airport. business travelers headed home at the end of the week. others getting an early start on the weekend when a man in the terminal pulls an assault rifle out of a bag and starts shooting. he blasts his way where passengers normally exit and then makes it a actual way to gates before he is shot by police. one tsa officer is dead, the first killed in the line of duty in the 12-year history. multiple other officers were hurt. airport authorities say in all some seven people were injured, at least one critically. the suspected gunman is paul anthony ciancia, originally from new jersey, living in los angeles, employment unknown, motive unknown, but apparently was carrying pap

're watching live coverage from our nbc station in los angeles, knbc, of an incident still unfolding at los angeles international airport. i'm scott cohn in the cnbc newsroom. 9:30 west coast time, 12:30 eastern time there were reports of shots fired in terminal three at lax. that's the terminal that serves aleen allegiant, front tier, jetblue, virgin australia. what we know we believe what people have been injured. there are multiple reports about the suspect, whether he or she is injured, in custody or whatever. as you've seen from knbc there is a triage unit being set up outside terminal three and it appears as if air traffic at lax is shut down, so that's yet another effect of this, as it continues to unfold. let's go back now to more live coverage from knbc. >> -- with you right now we want to connect with nick hugh, we're told he was at the airport at lax when this shooting occurred. nick, are you joining us? >> yeah, i'm here. >> you can tell us what you saw? >> yeah, i was in the virgin america terminal waiting in line for security on the upper mezzanine, and we were just standing t
in los angeles including a new photograph of the victim. we hope to have that for you within the next hour. we'll begin, of course, in los angeles where we have just learned beefed-up security teams are monitoring l.a.x. airport police are getting lots of help one day after a gunman opened fire killing a tsa officer and bringing chaos to one of the world's busiest airports. >> today in our enhanced deployment for los angeles world airport, los angeles police department has committed additional resources. this morning i met with the federal air marshals and they're providing additional resources for us. obviously today and for the foreseeable future we'll continue our very high profile at the curbs and anywhere in those ticketing areas and anywhere on our campuses. >> we're also learning some new troubling clues emerging about the suspect 23-year-old paul ciancia. a source tells cnn the suspect had a note with an anti-tsa rant. the note also reflected his fear of an ominous new world order. our affiliates kcal and kcbs got the exclusive video and it appears to show the suspect handcuff
>>> we're back with the breaking news on the deadly shooting at the los angeles international airport. today i'm wolf blitzer in washington. this is a special edition of "crossfire." today's "crossfire" co-hosts van jones and will kay, they're both standing by. we'll get to them shortly, but first the latest on the shooting at l.a.x. let's get some information now on the suspected gunman. the fbi has just identified him a little while ago. deborah feyerick has been working her sources all day. i take it he'sen identified as paul anthony ciancia, 23 years old of los angeles. there's also a new jersey connection. is that right? >> there is a new jersey connection. it's believed that's where he grew up. agents are heading out to that location. we do want to tell you also, you know, this is a youngman after he went on this rampage, he was shot several times in the chest, and so he has been in surgery, but again, the officers who were able to subdue and stop him shot him three times in the chest, center mass, so right now it's unclear just how critical his condition is. but he did
that it is of beautiful day, busy traveling, back to you. ashley: from los angeles fire department describing the situation at los angeles airport as, quote, multi patient incident. we heard from our colleagues at fox news of fbi agents telling them three people killed in this incident. mike is gone. on was going to ask how many people are around if someone pulls a gun what is the likelihood of a security officer being nearby. i would imagine pretty high. cheryl: security presence in any airport these days even after 9/11 is so prevalent. we have reports of three people dead, multiple injuries. we want to be clear here. sam joins us on the phone. welcome to you. what is your experience, what is -- former new york police department director of intelligence, getting this information and appreciate you joining us on short notice. what do you know about the story? >> it is a moving target at this point. what we suspect is that there was gunfire in the part of the airport that was past the security, but even that is probably at this moment. ashley: if someone pulls a gun in the situation it is unc
information coming out of l.a.x., the los angeles international airport. shots were heard, shots were fired. we're told about a half an hour or so ago, 9:30 a.m. pacific time. that would be 12:30 p.m. here on the east coast. about a half an hour or so ago, this incident apparently started with the shots fired. there are injuries. we've seen people evacuated. and we've sign people who have been injured. we have no idea what caused the shots to be fired. we do know that as a precaution, as they always do at these kinds of incidents, authorities are taking precautions and evacuating the terminal. we believe it's terminal 3 at l.a.x. if you're familiar with l.a.x., this is a huge terminal. this is a huge airport. on a friday morning when traffic is just building up for something like this to happen obviously very, very disturbing. l.a., l.a.x. police confirming and i'm quoting now there is an incident at l.a.x. and evacuations are under way. shots have been fired. and people have been injured. apparently multiple injuries in this incident. tom fuentes, our law enforcement analyst is on the phon
